What if you could spend an hour chatting with one of your heroes? Roger Kuhns contemplated such a moment in regards to Jens Jensen the father of landscape architecture, the founder of The Clearing, the visionary for the Chicago Parks and Forest Preserve system, and the design of natural landscapes using native species. Jens Jensen was a recognized national master of all of these crafts and skills. Join Roger Kuhns as he delves into the words and experiences of Jens Jensen to bring them alive and communicate how this insightful Danish immigrant became an American icon, and a leader of native landscape design and the Prairie Movement. Roger Kuhns is a writer, geologist and sustainologist. He is also an award winning documentary filmmaker on the Niagara Escarpment (www.musictoearspress.com), Kuhns will be leading a short hike beginning at 4:00pm through the Lautenbach Woods Nature Preserve across from Woodwalk Gallery. This event is August 17th, start with the hike at 4 pm and bring a picnic over to Woodwalk before the show which starts at 7pm. Woodwalk Gallery is located at 6746 County Road G, south of Egg Harbor . Cost $20 cash at the door or if you sign up for hike and monologue combined, through The Land Trust it is $25. What was it like in Door County 425 million years ago? What has gone on in the geologic and biologic past beneath our feet? What are the changes we’re experiencing now? What might the future hold for our land, water, environment and communities?­ “Escarpment” is the natural history story of Eastern Wisconsin and the Niagara Escarpment region of the Great Lakes. The film was shot on location along the entire length of the Niagara Escarpment, with a Door County focus. It is a fast-paced fun voyage through billions of years of Eastern Wisconsin natural history. The film reconstructs ecosystems that existed when the dolomitic rocks of the Niagara Escarpment were formed, considers if dinosaurs ever walked in Door County, follows the path of glaciers, and many other major events in our geologic journey. Locations around the world are featured to show what Door County was like in the past. Animated sequences are called upon to illustrate parts of the story. The film helps to inform, enlighten, and guide us towards being better stewards of the land. In the spirit of Discovery Channel and National Geographic films, geologist and sustainologist Roger Kuhns produced this film for all ages. Kuhns has worked on the Niagara Escarpment and Great Lakes geology and ecology during the course of his career.

Dinner & a Movie – Escarpment Showing @ Greens n Grains

Westbrook Land Trust Annual Open House- Guest Speaker @ Home of Kristin Elliott Leas and Mark Leas

Roger will be a guest speaker at the Westbrook Land Conservation Trust Annual Open House on February 4th at 1 pm at the home of Kristin Elliott Leas and Mark Leas. He will be speaking on how climate change is impacting shoreline CT.  Roger serves as a volunteer lobbyist for the Citizens’ Climate Lobby, a nonprofit group garnering support in Congress for national carbon fee and dividend legislation. He is the CCL Connecticut State Coordinator and group leader for the Southeast Connecticut (Mystic) chapter with his wife Anne Schmidt. Roger is a man of many talents. He is a writer, filmmaker, performer, geologist (Ph.D), and founder of SustainAudit, LLC, a sustainable practices application company based in Mystic, Connecticut.
