Senator Bernie Sanders (I, VT) and Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D, NY, 14) on Monday night (Dec. 4th) held a “Public Forum†call to the nation focussed on climate change action. Senator Sanders, who is referred to as a “climate Justice†warrior, again stressed that climate change is the Great Crisis to our people and planet.
He said, over the Facebook social media cast, “The time is late. Countries all over the world are going to have to stand up, take on the fossil fuel industry if we are going to leave our kids and our grandchildren a planet that is habitable. This is a crisis situation. It is unprecedented and we have got to act in an unprecedented way.â€
This week is also the United Nations Climate Change Summit in Poland.
This past week also saw the introduction of HR7173 the bipartisan climate action bill called “Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act†introduced to the House of Representatives. This bill is the brainchild of Citizens’ Climate Lobby and the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus. Senator Sanders didn’t mention the bill in his public climate call Monday night.
This past month also saw the release of the National Climate Assessment report that documents the need for urgent climate action.
This year also saw the release of the latest International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report that spelled out the same serious and urgent concerns.
What to do? Pass the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (HR7173) in the House of Representatives, and gain support to pass it in the Senate. Call your representatives and senators and garner support and leadership on this. There is no time to argue or impede or obstruct because this bill is good for America, jobs, health, environment, and economy.
